Inconsistencies Across Three Language Comprehension Tests for Specific Grammatical Features

A study was conducted to determine if children would respond differentially across tests, on the Northwestern Syntax Screening Test (receptive), the Test for Auditory Comprehension of Language, and the Bellugi-Klima Comprehension Test, for the same grammatical feature tested. Significant differences in children's performances across tests were found for 11 of the 22 grammatical features under consideration. Possible reasons for the differential responses across tests are discussed. Based on the findings the three tests under investigation should not be considered as equivalent measures of language comprehension for specific grammatical features.
