This study examined identification of stimuli on three picture articulation tests. Kindergarten, first-, and third-grade children's initial picture identification on the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation, the Photo Articulation Test, and the Templin-Darley Tests of Articulation was examined. Significant differences between tests and between age groups were evidenced. Analysis of test-x-age interactions suggests that age should be considered in test selection. Descriptive analysis of the children's responses suggests that vocabulary rather than visual imagery is the important variable in picture ambiguity.
