Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (LSHSS) annually publishes summary statistics of acceptance/rejection rates and manuscript processing times. These summary statistics provide data on acceptance/rejection rates, frequently used by tenure/promotion committees, as well as average manuscript processing times, often of interest to contributing authors.
Tables 1 and 2 show the rates of acceptance and rejection for manuscripts receiving a final decision in 2004 through 2006, regardless of the year the manuscript was submitted originally. Accepted manuscripts are those for which a final decision to accept has been made. Rejected manuscripts are those judged unsuitable for publication and for which no further revision or resubmission has been requested.
Table 1. Accept/reject rate for decisions made 2004-2006, including clinical forums.
| Decision | No. | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Accept | 105 | 55% |
| Reject | 87 | 45% |
| Total | 192 | 100% |
Table 2. Accept/reject rate for decisions made 2004-2006, excluding invited manuscripts.
| Decision | No. | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Accept | 64 | 44% |
| Reject | 80 | 56% |
| Total | 144 | 100% |
Table 3 presents data for manuscripts that had completed the review process as of year-end 2005. The submission-to-decision interval is calculated from the date the editor's office receives the manuscript to the date a final decision is made on the manuscript. That interval includes time for peer review, revision or resubmission by the author, and final review and decision by the editor.
Table 3. Mean intervals for manuscripts submitted in 2005.
| Interval | Avg. no. of days | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Submission to first decision | 71 | 2-168 |
| Submission to acceptance | 243 | 19-626 |
| Submission to rejection | 132 | 3-722 |
As of June 2007, the circulation for LSHSS was 52,057.
